Customs Clearance
Bamberg is neither a customs aerodrome nor a "special landing site" pursuant to customs regulations. For flights to/from third countries involving declarable goods, a permit exempting from the customs aerodrome requirement is necessary. This results in a chargeable clearance action by customs officials. The application must be submitted at least one working day before the planned entry/exit by email or fax to the main customs office in Schweinfurt. If no declarable goods are being imported, a simple, informal and free-of-charge notification of the flight with the planned times is still requested.
Border Control
Flights between territories of full Schengen member states do not require separate border controls. For other flights, police passport and border checks at approved border crossing points are required. Consequently, direct private flights to/from Bamberg are not possible. For "special needs" (e.g. business flights), you may apply for individual border crossing permits. Submit the application including the flight notification annex with crew and passenger details to the Directorate of the Bavarian Border Police.
